The Fashion Institute of Technology
Alvanon’s association with FIT focuses on the school’s Technical Design department, headed by chairperson Deborah Beard. FIT’s Bachelor of Science program in Technical Design educates students in all phases of product development, including pattern-making, specs, grading, fit and production. Alvanon is also a member of FIT’s Technical Design Advisory Board, which focuses on current curriculum challenges, and strategies to provide students with additional practical experience.
Through FIT’s partnership with the Fit Movement, Alvanon replaced the school’s existing inventory of fashion tools with 27 men’s, women’s, children’s and plus size AlvaForm fit mannequins, as well as grading blocks, and its Virtual AlvaForm.
“Notably, FIT is the first school to incorporate Alvanon’s Virtual AlvaForms into its curriculum,” Gribbin reports. “The Virtual AlvaForm is a 3D environment. It is used in conjunction with physical AlvaForm fit mannequins to ensure consistency in fit and sizing at every level of the design, development, production and quality process.”
